2K Games officially announced the newly-founded development studio ‘Dubbed Cloud Chamber’ as the new caretaker for the Bioshock franchise.
BioShock Infinite as the last entry in the BioShock series was released all the way back in 2013 and we didn’t get the chance to play any BioShock game during the eighth generation of consoles but it seems the next generation will be the place for another unique experience in series’ dystrophic worlds. According to 2K Games’ recent announcement, they have found and established a brand new studio called Dubbed Cloud Chamber which is going to develop a new Bioshock game as its first major project. 2K Games also mentioned that the development process for the next BioShock has already begun and Dubbed Cloud Chamber as a “collective of storytellers” will create unique experiences in line with BioShock’s roots.
The newly-founded development studio is lead by 2K Games’ first female studio head, Kelley Gilmore and Cloud Chamber will operate out of two different offices in different locations. One of which is located in 2K Games’ HQ in the Bay Area, and the other one is in Montreal. It’s also worth mentioning that Cloud Chamber is now 2K Games’ first Canadian studio, and they are hoping to grow and expand their presence in Montreal and Canada.
“We founded Cloud Chamber to create yet-to-be-discovered worlds – and their stories within – that push the boundaries of what is possible in the video game medium,” said Kelley Gilmore as the head of Cloud Chamber.
Kelley Gilmore also stated that Cloud Chamber’s team believes in the beauty and strength of diversity, in both the makeup of the studio and the nature of its thinking. Cloud Chamber has a deeply experienced group of game makers, including many responsible for Bioshock’s principal creation, advancement and longstanding notoriety, and now it’s become a part of the 2K family as stewards of this beloved videogame series.
2K Games re-released BioShock games in 2016’s Bioshock: The Collection but as mentioned before, we didn’t get the chance to play any BioShock game since 2013’s Bioshock: Infinite so it goes without saying that the expectations for this upcoming BioShock title are sky high and the newly-founded development studio ‘Dubbed Cloud Chamber’ has an incredibly hard job to do.
As you may already know, both Bioshock and Bioshock: Infinite were developed by Irrational Games (Bioshock 2 was developed by 2K Marin), and following the release of 2013’s Bioshock: Infinite, they downsized significantly and also re-branded the studio to Ghost Story Games which is still lead by the legendary Ken Levine and according to the recent job listing, Ghost Story Games is working on another Immersive Sim of its own. There is still little known about this “creatively ambitious project in the immersive sim genre” but just like Cloud Chamber’s new BioShock games, it’s safe to assume the next generation of consoles will be the place for both of these titles.
